Museum Visitor Policies & Procedures
The safety and security of the Blackhawk Museum visitors, volunteers, staff, and collections is of the highest importance. As Northern California's most beloved collection of museums and galleries, we work hard every day to ensure the preservation of artifacts for the enjoyment of generations to come.
Blackhawk Museum is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming museum experience for all members of our community. We reserve the right to deny admission, prevent entry, and/or ask a person already admitted to leave for failure to comply with Blackhawk Museum Visitor Policies & Procedures.

Prohibited Conduct
While on Blackhawk Museum premises NO VISITOR SHALL / Prohibited Conduct:
- Touch, damage, deface, or remove any items, or portion thereof, in any of the exhibit galleries
- Run inside the museum
- Pull, grab or hang from the museum ropes or stanchions
- Climb upon, walk or sit on any part of the buildings or displays
- Yell, use loud, abusive, or otherwise improper language
- Bring dogs, pets or other animals (Trained service animals ONLY)
- Create any hazard to people or things
- Take photographs for advertising or any other commercial purpose
- Engage in disorderly conduct or perform obscene or indecent acts
- Use, possess, or sell illegal drugs
- Smoke, including e-cigarettes inside or within 25' of any door outside
- Carry firearms, other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives, either openly or concealed on the premises. The prohibition on firearms applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits, but not to active law enforcement personnel authorized to carry firearms
- Loiter, sleep, or participate in unwanted assemblies
- Display of carry placards, signs, or banners
- Solicit for commercial or charitable purposes or distribute advertisements, pamphlets, handbills, and flyers.
We encourage you to limit the number of personal belongings and bags you bring into our facility as they could be subject to a through search. Limiting the items you bring will expedite your entry into the Museum. Visitors should not leave personal belongings unattended.
Prohibited Items
While on Blackhawk Museum premises the following items are Prohibited:
- Food and Beverage
- Oversized Backpacks and Luggage
- Wagons and Oversized Strollers
- Pets, Emotional Support Animals, Therapy, Comfort or Companion Dogs (Trained Service Animals ONLY)
- Selfie sticks, Monopods, Tripods, Light Fixtures, Props, and Drones
- Firearms, Weapons, Knives, Pocket Knives, Box Cutters, and Scissors
- Bicycles, Skateboards, Rollerblades, Scooters, eBikes, Wheelie Shoes
- Permanent Markers and Spray Paint
Standard-size backpacks up to 20" x 14" x 8" are allowed.
Single standard-size strollers measuring a maximum of 27" wide when unfolded are allowed; infant changing stations are available in multiple restrooms.
Shirt and shoes are required (no cleats or wheeled shoes)

Policies
Artwork Policy: Do not touch the art, including pedestals and bases. Please keep your hands at least 18 inches away from the artworks.
Sketching Policy: Sketching is allowed for individuals using a pencil and a small handheld pad during public hours.
Personal Photography: The capture of still photography and short videos with smartphones or small handheld cameras for personal use is allowed. Large cameras, tripods, selfie sticks, and long-form videos are not allowed.
Professional photography (including wedding and engagement photography) is not allowed without prior permission. If you are interested in renting the Blackhawk Museum for a commercial photo or video shoot, advanced approval and contracting are required.
